Read by the tongue
1 Tibetan proverb read closely — filed under Merit and Humanism; set beside cousins in Mandarin, English and Latin.
Why a Tibetan proverb says a king is honoured only at home while a person of real quality is honoured everywhere — and how Mandarin, English, and Latin sayings split over where a reputation actually lives.
A king is honoured only at home; a person of real worth, anywhere.
Literally: A king is honoured in his own land; one possessing qualities, honoured everywhere
